Atlético London fully support the findings and recommendations in Raising the Bar, Karen Carney’s review of women’s football, but we would like to see more.
To truly prosper, women’s football needs to acknowledge the role of independent and lesser affiliated clubs to the vibrancy and success of the game, as well as address the structural issues around access to the sport for girls and young women across the country.
The issue of ‘big name’ men’s clubs using their financial power to access the league – and control its direction – needs also to be acknowledged and addressed.
